From March 21st to 23rd, the Argentine Men’s Cestoball Team held a training camp in the city of Santiago del Estero to prepare for the Interamerican Cup against the Dominican Republic in May.

The players, under the guidance of coach Melina Véliz and physical trainer Fernando Zanfagnin, carried out tactical, strategic, and physical training.

In addition, a game was played between the Argentina Black and Argentina Light Blue teams, with the light blue team winning 95-83.

Prior to this, a game was played between the Santiago del Estero Select Team and the Argentine National Team, with the National Team winning 73-56.

Furthermore, to conclude their stay in Santiago, the team visited the Colonia Pinto Penitentiary Complex, offering a clinic to a group of inmates and also sharing Cestoball drills and games.

Argentina is the reigning World Champion in both the women’s and men’s divisions, having won the 2023 World Championship finals in India against the host nation. This Argentine sport, created by Enrique Romero Brest—the father of Physical Education in Argentina—is increasingly practiced by countries worldwide. Argentina, India, France, Sri Lanka, and the Dominican Republic are the leading nations, followed by Bangladesh, Kenya, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Spain. Additionally, contacts have been made with Brazil to formally begin practicing the sport.

The next step in the journey for both Cestoball teams will be the Inter-American Cup, with dates to be confirmed between May 8th and 15th. During this period, the Dominican Republic delegation will visit our country not only to play in the continental final but also to receive clinics and training from the Argentine Cestoball Confederation’s training team, with the aim of promoting Cestoball in Central America.
